Common Formative Assessments (CFAs)

At Georgia Connections Academy (GACA), we use Common Formative Assessments (CFAs), previously called Benchmarks, to check how students are doing in their courses and help them stay on track for success.

Who Takes Them?
All students take CFA assessments, but only some students will take them in person.

In-person CFA testing is required only for students in these high school End-of-Course (EOC) classes:

  • 10th Grade Literature and Composition (Lit & Comp II)

  • Algebra Concepts and Connections

  • Biology

  • United States History

Why Are They Important?
These tests help to:

  • Show what students have learned so far

  • Prepare students for the EOC Milestone exams

  • Plan extra help or support if needed

How Do They Work?
Students in EOC courses will take CFA tests in person at official GACA testing sites. Families will receive notice with specific testing dates, locations, and instructions.

When Are They?

There are three CFA testing windows during the school year.

Students in EOC courses will take in-person CFA/benchmarks during the following weeks:

  • CFA/Benchmark 1: October 6–10

  • CFA/Benchmark 2: December 8–12

  • CFA/Benchmark 3: February 9–13

Exact dates, times, and locations will be shared with families in advance.

What Happens If a Student Misses a Test?
CFA testing is required for EOC courses. Missing a test may lead to:

  • Academic probation

  • Delay in course credit or promotion

  • Review of continued enrollment at GACA

If test results show that a student needs support, GACA may assign extra help. Students and Learning Coaches are expected to follow all support plans.
